Xbox360 owners to buy a lot of games... because Microsoft has managed to get a lot of great developers to support the platform with great games...
If there are great games, people will buy them... That explains why the Wii and PS3 software sales aren't so hot...

For the money they make annualy from xbox live (10M users... at LEAST $50 per year... yeah) They should have the MOST stable and kick a$$ online service in the world with the exception of the few mega monster MMORPGs out there...

The PS3 version doesn't look very smooth, or rich.
It looks like there is excess picture noise from the PS3 version for some reason.
Instead of having a lush green look to the grass and trees, everything has a sharp white-ish glare... strange

I don't know the Microsoft ever intended, or hoped, to out-do Blu Ray by releasing an HD-DVD add-on.
They effectively created enough confusion, and resistance to Blu Ray, that it kept the format from completely taking over.

But, if the PS3 had more decent games to play, it would be nearly as fruitful as the Xbox360 right now, but, even with some Xbox Live hiccups (which I have experienced slightly) the Xbox360 still presents a much richer gaming experience than the PS3, and I still prefer the ease of use that Xbox Live has in contrast to the fragmented PSN experience.
Lower production costs for SONY means that they have freed up some money that they can now use to better the PS3 in other areas.... Like... Games, marketing, online service etc...
It may not translate immediately to the consumer in the form of a price drop, but it should improve the PS3 as a whole

Even with such a decrease in chip production costs, there is still a Blu Ray player and cell processor in that thing... I guess it's possible, since they are buying everything in such high bulk quantities, but $400 still seems pretty low.
I guess that would put them at breaking even on the newer consoles, which hardly ever happens this early on for console manufacturers...

It does look a little too "patched" together...
OLED displays will change that though. being a flexible surface, curved monitors are likely to become very prevalent.
